Dordogne

The fishing

The trout rivers of the upper Dordogne valley are varied and plentiful and situated in one of the most scenically glorious areas of France.

The Dordogne itself is the major river fed by many notable tributaries, the Doustre and Maronne among the best.

These granite based tumbling mountain streams have a wonderful peaty quality, are extremely clear and hold very good densities of small feisty trout.

Larger streams like the Maronne holder bigger trout and in certain sections good heads of Grayling, too.  And the upper Dordogne between the beautiful riverside towns of Argentat and Beauliue presents a Mecca for trophy sized trout and grayling– the Grayling season is open to the end of November.

The region

The Dordogne is famous for its scenic beauty, wines and wonderful regional cuisine, and architecturally, is one of the most interesting regions of France.

The upper Dordogne Valley boasts many wonderful Castles, Chateaus, fortified towns and medieval villages.  And the beautiful riverside towns of Argentat and Beauliue make ideal bases from which to explore the tourism and fishing.
