Lozere

Commonly known as the Lungs of Languedoc, Lozere has the highest mean altitude in France. Half a million hectares of protected National Park encompassing some of the most dramatic and beautiful landscapes to be found in Europe.

An ancient land steeped in France's rich medieval history. Chateaus and Castles still standing guard on the banks of the Tarn and the Lot as beautifully preserved reminders of the past.

This region of south eastern France is a wonderful place for a family (fishing) holiday offering a great variety of interesting tourist attractions and sporting activities for the energetic.

Nature and activities

Lozere is also a treasure trove of wildlife havens.  Bison grazing on prairie pastures. The wolves of Gaudevon reintroduced to their natural habitat. Rare White Vultures now nurtured back to sizable numbers - cctv relaying nesting fledglings to a screen in the haven’s public observatory

Adventure activities for energetic youngsters feature heavily in Lozere's attraction. Among many 'supervised' opportunities available are Kayaking, Canoeing, Adventure Parks, Horse Riding, Sailing and Junior Moto Cross. And for sheer modern drama take a trip across the spectacularly designed new bridge at Millau (the Eiffel Tower would fit under it) which spans the magnificent Tarn Gorge

Fly Fishing

Lozere's fishing lifeblood stems from the snow melt waters of the Central Massif, percolating through Granite, Basalt, Limestone and Shale to produce numerous rivers of incredible clarity and diversity.

In addition there's a net work of spring fed streams meandering the moorlands and upland wild-flower pastures adding their own richness to the mix.

With 2700 kilometers of premier category trout filled rivers and streams it's easy to see why Lozere is considered a fly fishing paradise. the major surprise is that it's virtually unknown to British tourists and in particular the Anglers - until now.
