The Pyrenees

Fly fishing vacations in the Pyrenees Atlantique (South West France)

The region: Mountains dominate life in the Pyrénées, a region in many ways closer to Spain than France. Over centuries this region has developed its own Basque identity – a unique cultural melting pot between France and Spain.

Environment: The Pyrenees is the last remaining wilderness in southern Europe – a habitat for rare animal wild life. And most important (for the fly fisherman) it offers 2500 km of mountain trout rivers, fed by the snow melts waters of the Pyrenees towering peaks. Fly fishing in the Pyrenees is a unique and magical experience, for all levels of abilities.

Fishing: Our fishing is on the magnificent Gave d'Oloron and the Gave de Mauleon - two of France's best combined salmon and trout rivers. The region is famous for the quality of water, wonderful landscape and fighting qualities of fish. It’s also home to the annual World Salmon Fishing Championships (held every April/May)
