Fly fishing in Wales

If your passion is game angling, then Wales is for you. It has a wealth of rivers and lakes in a variety of stunning scenarios. The only problem is - choosing where to fish is often more difficult than actually catching your fish.

Brown Trout

You can enjoy challenging fishing on classic lowland rivers such as the Usk and Teifi or experience true wilderness in the mountain lakes of Snowdonia, Pumlimon or the Cambrian Mountains; one thing is for certain, these fish are wild and when you are lucky enough to hook one, only then you will realise just how wild they can be.

Grayling

Wales has a flourishing grayling population, from their natural home on the large rivers of North and Mid Wales and their tributaries to her adopted rivers of the South.

The quantity and quality of Grayling is undisputed, the Dee, Wye and Severn both hold fish to over the 4lb mark and the rivers of the South, such as the Taff, Rhymney and Ewenny now have established populations with fish being caught to the 3lb mark

Sea Trout

Wales has the best Sea Trout fishing in the United Kingdom. The sea-trout run from early April right through to September. With the large sea-trout first to appear followed by the smaller fish from mid June onwards.

The fish run in all water conditions so throughout the season you are very likely to encounter fresh fish.

The sea-trout range up to 20lb, although the average size is 2lb - 3lb with the in June, July and August.

Most rivers in Wales which flow into the Irish Sea receive a run of sea trout, amongst the most famous are the Towy, Teifi, name just a few.
